மார்கழி திங்கள் மதிநிறைந்த நன்னாலளால்

The above lines written andal implies the significance of the tamil month margazhi(for now margazhi stands as the last month,as thai month marks the first month of tamil calender) 9th month of (old.....)tamil calender, the month is dedicated for the worship of lord vishnu and the guidelines for vishnu worship are laid by ANDAL in her thiruppavai, it contains 30 songs in which she praises the lord and unmarried gals recite the songs(1song/day) to've a loving partner in future.
Andal is believed to be incarnation of bhoodevi and one among the 12 alwars, was brought up by vishnuchitthar who found her near a tulasi plant and named her kodhai with her strong determination and love she married ranganatha perumal in sree rangam, in thirupavai she expresses her love towards the lord and also guides the people to win the blessings of the lord.Andal is also called as sudi kodutha sudarkodi as perumal loves to wear the garlands which andal wore even today the garlands are offered thirupathi perumal and aranganatha perumal.Every vishnu temple has a separate sannidhi for andal and in srivilliputhur near madurai(tamilnadu) has a temple for andal were she stays with rangamannar.
Margazhi month (december-january) has its importance as on this month the chennai city gets its musical feast, the fog covered mornings are welcomed with colorful kolams and before the dawn people sing thirupavai and thiruvempavai in the streets and as the sunsets silk sarees march to the sabhas as the most of the sabhas in the city host musical events by the renown musicians.Vaikunda yeagadesi marking the reopening of the doors of heaven is celebrated in every vishnu temples(28/12/09) while arudhra dharisanam is celebrated in siva temples for natrajar.(1/1/10),bhogi and andal thirukalyanam is celebrated on the last day of margazhi.
