Sundara kandam is the 5th kandam in Kambaramayanam and immensely popular among the people as it is believed to build self confidence among the readers and reciting sundara kandam also serves as the remedy for their problems.Sundarakandam portrays the power of hanuman and the way he ended the sufferings of seetha devi in ashokavanam,(sundara(r)+kandam) hanuman is also called as sundarar(man of beauty) so sundarakandam refers the powers and beauty of hanuman, people also say that sundarakandam(sundaram(beauty)+kandam) also speaks the beauty of lanka so it is referred sundarakandam.
Kambaramayanam consists of 6 kandams(parts)

BALA KANDAM speaks about the early days of rama and his journey with vishvamithrar and meeting and marriage with seetha devi

AYODHYA KANDAM in this part kambar explains the chain of incidents which lead ramar to leave ayodhya and his journey to the forest.

ARANYA KANDAM, aranyam means forest in this kaandam the kamban portrays the incidents which lead ravana to take captive of seetha devi.

KISHKINTHA KANDAM this part of ramayana deals with ramar's starts his quest to find seetha devi and rescue her and also the meeting of hanuman with rama and lakshmana.

SUNDARA KANDAM as said earlier this part speaks about anjaneyar and his efforts to meet seetha devi in lanka.

YUDHA KANDAM WAR....WAR....AND THE TRIUMPH OF GOOD OVER EVIL,rescue of sita from ravana and lord rama heads to ayodhya and takes over as the king of ayodhya.

SUNDARA KANDAM IN BRIEF

KADAL THAAVU PADALAM(கடல் தாவு படலம் ) after a brief discussion hanuman headed towards lanka as a peace messenger and to meet seethadevi, as a mighty ocean divides the land and lanka,hanuman decided to leap and cross the mighty ocean, from mahendra malai hanuman started his journey in the air with the blessings from heaven.On his way hanuman was interrupted by a mighty mountain named mainagaparvadham(மைநாக பர்வதம்) which arose from the ocean and asked hanuman to stay for a while on it and accept a small feast, as hanuman was in a hurry promised the mountain that he'll stay on it while returning from lanka and in his way he kills two women demons.

OOR THAEDU PADALAM(ஊர் தேடு படலம்) now hanuman reached lanka and was impressed by the sight,architecture and the life style of the demons of lanka and while he was about to enter lanka , he met the women demon and guard(இலங்கைமாதேவி)of lanka she stopped hanuman entering lanka but with a single blow she fell down to earth and let hanuman to enter lanka, as hanuman is now in the enemy's territory he was very careful in each step and was searching for seetha devi in lanka.

KAATCHI PADALAM(காட்சி படலம்) After roaming in the streets of lanka finally he reached ashokavanam and spotted seetha devi amongst the demons and sitting under a tree when hanuman reached the tree, Ravana came to ashokavanam and asked sita devi to accept his love(?) but seethadevi strongly objected it and advised him to leave her but ravana didn't hear those words and left the place asking the demons to be more cruel towards her,thirijadai(திரிசடை) daughter of vibishnan, who was one among the demons showed love towards her and said that Rama will succeed and rescue her.

URUKAATU PADALAM(உருக்காட்டு படலம்) with his powers hanuman made the demons sleep and approached seethadevi and tell her his mission but seetha devi was not in mood to listen the words of hanuman but the messenger briefed about the beauty of rama and the incidents that took place in her absence and also added a few words about him and also gave her the ring which rama gave him, when seetha devi questioned him about how he managed to cross the ocean hanuman showed his mighty figure, after hearing seetha devi's request he shrank in size of a normal human and seetha devi blessed him to succeed in his mission.

SUDAMANI PADALAM(சூடாமணி படலம்) hanuman requested seethadevi to come along with him to reach rama but seethadevi rejected the request and asked him to tell rama to rescue her and also gave the soodamani(a jewel seetha devi wore) and asked him to submit it in her husbands hand and seetha devi blessed him,then asked him to leave.

POZHIL ERUTHA PADALAM(பொழில் இருத்த படலம்) but hanuman was in no mood to leave the place and he also wanted to meet ravana so he destroyed ashokavanam and tore the beauty of the garden into pieces, none dared to stop hanuman and meanwhile the news reached ravana and he turned wild and asked his demons to kill the vanara that destroyed his lovely garden.

KINGAAR VADHAI PADALAM(கிங்கார் வதை படலம்)angry ravana sends his soldiers named kingaars to kill hanuman but vayuputhra hanuman sent them to hell.

SAMBUMAALI VADHAI PADALAM(சம்புமாலி வதை படலம்) sambumaali known to a be a minster for ravana also shown his way to hell by anjaneya.

PANCHA SENATHIBHADIGAL VADHAI PADALAM(பஞ்ச சேனாதிபதிகள் வதை படலம்) as ravana lost the two battles he sent a very big army headed by five commanders to kill hanuman but they too tasted death.

AKSHAKUMARAN VADHAI PADLAM (அக்ஷகுமரன் வதை படலம்)akshakumaran, son of ravana who challenged hanuman with his skills even hanuman found it difficult to answer him but wat can stop hanuman,yes finally akshakumaran was showed his way out of the earth.

PAASA PADALAM(பாசப் படலம்) after hearing the death of his brother akshakumaran indrajith shed tears for his brother and he decided to meet his father ravana and started his journey with millions of his men to meet hanuman in the battle field but his efforts didn't turn fruitful and finally used bhramasthram to kill hanuman but that doesn't have a big impact on hanuman but hanuman was eager to meet ravana, used this chance and acted to faint but the stupid demons believed this and jumped in joy and tied hanuman with huge ropes and took him to ravanana.

PINI VEETU PADALAM(பிணி வீட்டு படலம்)after reaching ravana hanuman advised ravana to release seethadevi and also briefed about the incidents that resulted by his wrong doings but ravana was in no mood to hear the words of the messenger ordered his demons to kill hanuman but vibishna interrupted his brother ravana and asked him not to kill a messenger but ravana was very eager to punish hanunan so he ordered his demons to lit the long tail of anjaneyar.

ELANGAI YAERIYUTU PADALAM(இலங்கை ஏறியூட்டு படலம்) the demons lit the tail of hanuman with fire and hanuman burnt the entire lanka and destroyed every part of lanka and made it into a heap of ashes.

THIRUVADI THOZHUDHA PADALAM(திருவடி தொழுத படலம்) After the victory hanuman left lanka with the sudamani which seethadevi gave him and met rama then briefed the incidents happened in lanka and submitted the sudamani to him and rama was very happy to see the sudamani and hear about seetha devi and had no words to praise hanuman so he called him near and hugged him this made hanuman to jump in joy, then rama discussed about the next step to rescue seethadevi.
